Today, Representative Tipton and I announced the creation of a community group to consider turning the Colorado National Monument into a national park.

This group will provide a chance for people to voice their support for and/or concerns about a possible national park designation. We believe that any changes to public lands need to be a locally led effort and want this group to be a mouthpiece for the people, so there can be a consolidated recommendation for the monument's future. It is simply essential to hear others' perspectives to ensure a balanced policy.

The members of the Colorado National Monument working group include:

  1. Tom Kenyon, Mayor of Grand Junction
  2. Barbara Bowman, Director of Sales & Division Manager, Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau
  3. Diane Schwenke, President and CEO, Grand Junction Area Chamber
  4. Ken Henry, Mayor of Fruita
  5. Roger Granat, Mayor of Palisade
  6. Jack Neckels, Vice Chair Colorado National Monument Association and former Superintendent of Grand Teton National Park
  7. Bonnie Petersen, Club 20 Executive director
  8. Owen O'Fallon, President, Colorado Canyons Conservation Area Association
  9. Jay Seaton, Publisher, Daily Sentinel
  10. Scott McInnis, Former U.S. Representative
  11. Lynn Grose, Glade Park Community Association
  12. A member of the Glade Park ranching community
  13. Greg Mikolai, Mesa County District 51 School Board, Producer for Rocky Mountain PBS
