Dear Fellow Coloradan,

PETITION: Shooting Range Bill Hunting and recreational shooting are a significant part of Colorado's sporting heritage, our outdoor recreation economy and the effort to conserve our natural resources. But as shooting ranges across our state close, hunters and marksmen are losing access to safe, well-managed areas where they can practice their sport.

That's why last year I introduced the bipartisan Target Practice and Marksmanship Training Support Act. It would amend current law – the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act – to give states greater flexibility to use the funds collected on sporting equipment and ammunition for activities such as wildlife restoration and hunter education programs – and for ensuring there are enough accessible ranges to safely practice recreational shooting.

Both the Colorado Springs Gazette and Boulder Daily Camera have written favorable editorials about about how my bill would help Colorado's sportsmen and growing outdoor recreation industry. This week, I wrote a letter asking for the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment & Public Works to hold a hearing on my bill so that we can move it further toward Senate passage and into law.

Help me push this important bill to develop safer public shooting ranges. Sign the petition asking for a hearing for my bill.

Enhancing the opportunities for recreational shooting will create a more enjoyable, safer environment for sportsmen and their communities. This will also help them to further contribute to conservation and wildlife efforts. Colorado's sportsmen are a big part of a booming sector of Colorado's economy, and they ought to have well-managed areas to practice their sport.

Warm regards,

Mark Udall
