Udall Welcomes National Employment Numbers, Hitachi Data Systems Announcement

Posted: Friday, October 5, 2012

Mark Udall welcomed news today that the U.S. economy grew by 114,000 jobs, dropping the national unemployment rate to 7.8 percent — its lowest point since January 2009. Average hourly wages also saw an increase.

“We still have work to do, but the monthly unemployment report shows that our economy is on the right track and that America is getting back to work,” Udall said. “I am looking forward to working with my colleagues in Washington to continue this positive trend. Now is the time for Congress to come together and reach a bipartisan deal to reduce the budget deficit, extend the wind Production Tax Credit, pass the 2012 Farm Bill, and implement policies that will fuel continued growth and create good-paying, stable jobs.”

Udall also welcomed the announcement today by Hitachi Data Systems, a California-based Fortune 500 firm, that it will expand to Colorado with a new office in Douglas County. The company’s expansion, announced by Gov. John Hickenlooper and the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, is expected to bring 300 to 500 jobs to Colorado.

“Hitachi Data Systems’ announcement today underlines that Colorado is on the cutting edge of job creation and home to some of the most innovative, skilled workers in the nation,” Udall said. “This is excellent news for Colorado and an indication of what’s on the horizon as a result of businesses leaders and policymakers working together to get America back to work.”

Udall has been a strong advocate of supporting Colorado businesses and Colorado job creation. Udall has worked to bring a regional patent office to Denver, extend critical tax credits for Colorado businesses and provide rural businesses with the resources to succeed.
