Udall: New Hiring at Pueblo Vestas Facility Underlines Immediate Benefit of Wind Tax Credit

Udall Led Fight to Extend Wind Production Tax Credit, Create Wind Energy Jobs in Colorado

Posted: Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Mark Udall said Vestas's announcement today that it will start creating jobs at its Pueblo production facility underlines the immediate and far-reaching effect of Congress extending the wind Production Tax Credit — an effort he led on the floor of the U.S. Senate. Udall, who serves of the Senate Energy and Natural Resource Committee, stood with Coloradans when he voted for the wind PTC as part of the bipartisan deal to avert the fiscal cliff.

"I was proud to stand with Colorado workers and vote to extend the wind Production Tax Credit earlier this year. Vestas's decision to start hiring again at its Pueblo production facility underlines what I said in 27 speeches on the Senate floor: Wind energy creates jobs and is revitalizing American manufacturing," Udall said. "I hope that this is the first of many new hires as a result of my successful, bipartisan effort."

Udall toured the Vestas towers facility in Pueblo in July and has visited its other facilities across Colorado. He also recently visited other businesses that have created jobs in Colorado thanks to the state’s thriving wind energy industry, including Denver-based Walker Components and Louisville-based Boulder Wind Power.

Udall has been a longtime and steadfast advocate for extending the wind Production Tax Credit. Since June 2012, Udall has delivered 27 speeches on the U.S. Senate floor to encourage his colleagues to quickly extend the PTC. Udall's effort, backed by Colorado business leaders and workers alike, drew the support of a bipartisan and bicameral group of lawmakers, including the father of the PTC, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa).
