Udall Urges Senate to Level the Playing Field for Main Street Businesses, Colorado Retailers
Mark Udall urged his colleagues to pass the bipartisan Marketplace Fairness Act, a common-sense bill to level the playing field for Main Street businesses and Colorado's brick-and-mortar retailers. The proposal would end the competitive advantage online-only retailers have over local businesses by authorizing states to require that out-of-state retailers collect local sales taxes that are already owed under current law. The legislation would ensure that Colorado Main Street retailers are not penalized for creating jobs in Colorado.

Senate Passes Udall-Barrasso Amendment to Increase Firefighting, Mitigation Funding
Mark Udall's bipartisan and deficit-neutral amendment to increase the funding for fighting wildfire and modernizing the aging air tanker fleet in the 2014 Senate Budget passed by voice vote without objection. The amendment, co-sponsored by Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), increases the federal budget for wildfire mitigation and firefighting efforts across Colorado and the West by $100 million in 2014.

Mark Udall Urges Senate Not to Abandon Military's Pursuit of Energy Innovation
Mark Udall spoke on the floor of the U.S. Senate to oppose amendments aimed at slashing funding for the Defense Department's (DOD) pursuit of alternative energy, alternative fuels and energy efficiency. Udall, who serves on both the Senate Armed Services and Energy and Natural Resources committees, has championed the Defense Department's pursuit of national security through energy security, including successfully fighting last year to maintain Defense Department funding of these critical programs and investments. The U.S. Department of the Navy recently awarded Udall the U.S. Navy's Distinguished Public Service Award based on his leadership on these issues.

Mark Udall, who serves on the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, pressed the heads of the CIA and other intelligence agencies today on declassifying the committee's report on the CIA's detention and interrogation program and correcting the inaccurate public record on the effectiveness of the program. Udall also pressed new CIA Director John Brennan on recent remarks attributed to unnamed agency officials disputing many of the report's findings, and pushed for an updated deadline for the CIA to provide its comments to the committee on the committee's report.
