Udall Announces Grant to Spur Job Creation Partnerships in Durango Area
Today, Mark Udall announced that the Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado was awarded a $61,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration to help create jobs and strengthen the economy in southwestern Colorado. The organization will use the funds to develop and implement a comprehensive economic development strategy to spur private capital investment in Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma and San Juan counties.
"Federal grants can provide vital funding resources for communities like Durango and southwestern Colorado," Udall said. "This grant is an example of how federal investment and private-sector partnerships can strengthen the local economy. It will help the Region 9 Economic Development District of Southwest Colorado establish an economic development framework and strategy to maximize private capital investment to more effectively create jobs in the region."
The grant will support regional data collection, updating the regional Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, working with county-level economic development groups, and assisting communities in the area to complete priority projects that lead to economic growth.
